Privacy Policy

The privacy of each individual who visits the Talk America website, responds to our advertisements or sends us e-mail is important to us. Talk America maintains strict customer information privacy policies and uses current technology to safeguard customer information from unauthorized disclosure. This Privacy Policy tells you how we collect information from you and how we use it.

Talk America posts various "co-branded" services on its website. Although Talk America requests all partners to have a privacy policy consistent with the policy listed below, it is recommended that you view the privacy policy adopted by the Talk America partners when you visit their websites.

Customer Information: It is a fact of modern life that companies, including Talk America, must collect information about their customers in order to carry out business and offer services. Internet privacy concerns focus on protecting personally identifiable information that an individual expects to be kept private. Such information, called personally identifiable information, is information associated with a specific individual or entity, including, for instance, a customer's name, address or telephone number, e-mail address, and information about that customer's online activities. Businesses collect personally identifiable information in the course of billing and providing services to a customer.

Talk America will not collect any personally identifiable information on its website about you unless you provide it to us. Talk America may require that you provide personally identifiable information to complete an online order or to request more information about new or current Talk America products or services. Such information may include your name, address, telephone number, email address, social security number, credit card number and bank account number. If you do not want your personally identifiable information collected, please do not submit it to us. Talk America may transfer your personal information to third parties, including our credit card processor and other agents in order to fulfill your order and provide the highest quality service to you.

When you provide us with personally identifiable information, we may use that information in the following ways, unless stated otherwise:

* for billing purposes;
* we may contact you if we have questions about your account;
* we may store and process that information to better understand all customer needs and how we can improve our products and services for all customers; and
* we may use that information to contact you with new promotions and announcements

Talk America does not currently disclose or sell personally identifiable information to third parties (except as required by subpoena, search warrant, or other legal process or to enforce our User Agreement), without the consent of the customer. When Talk America uses contractors or other companies to perform services on its behalf, Talk America will ensure that your customer information is protected in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

In the future, should Talk America decide to share its customers personally identifiable information with third parties, it will, in advance, provide notice to its customers and the opportunity for its users to indicate whether they would prefer that such information not be provided to third parties.

Non-Personally Identifiable Information Collected Automatically: In some cases, we may collect information about you that is not personally identifiable such as the type of Internet browser you are using, the type of computer operating system you are using, and the domain name of the website and/or Internet Service Provider from which you linked to our site or advertisement.

Children & Privacy: Talk America does not intentionally target or collect personally identifiable information online from children or individuals under 18 years of age. The Talk America sign-up page requires each new customer to verify that he or she is over 18-years of age. Talk America encourages parents to take an active role to protect the privacy and security of their children and to prevent the inappropriate use of information about their children on the Internet.

Online Security: We use online security features to safeguard the transmission of information from your personal computer to the Talk America servers. Talk America utilizes a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol to provide "secure sessions" for visitors to our website. Through the "secure session," information that you input into a Talk America order form will be sent and will arrive privately and unaltered at a Talk America server. This security is used to prohibit other companies and web users from being able to access your information. Talk America will continue to enhance our online security procedures with new technology.

For users of Talk America's services, your account password is protected so that only you can access it and view the member and billing information related to your account. We recommend that you do not divulge your password to anyone. Talk America will not ask you for your password in an unsolicited telephone call or e-mail. If you believe your password has been compromised, you should immediately change your password to prevent the unauthorized use of it. Please contact us at our e-mail address with any questions.

"Cookies": Pieces of information that a website transfers to an individual's hard drive are called "Cookies." When you view our website or advertisements, we store some information on your computer. This information will be in the form of a "Cookie" or similar file and will be used to determine ways to improve our website, advertisements, products or services. For example, Cookies allow us to tailor a website to better match your interests and preferences. In addition, you may occasionally get Cookies from our advertisers. Talk America does not control these Cookies. The use of advertising Cookies sent by third-party servers is standard in the Internet industry.

With most Internet browsers, you can erase Cookies from your computer hard drive, block all Cookies, or receive a warning before a Cookie is stored.
